Nearly all the beads I use are imported from the Czech Republic.
There is so much history to these jewel-like treasures and that, I believe, is what gives them such character and depth.
I have visited some of the factories and buy from several different ones in order to introduce texture and depth to the jewellery by using different shapes and finishes. Beads have been made in the Czech Republic since Roman times, and bead making is now a thriving industry in Northern Bohemia having come through turbulent times previously. Many of the beads are produced in small family run factories. At one time there were over 2000 factories in Northern Bohemia which has the natural resources to make such high quality glass, wood for heat and sand for the glass plus it has years and years of expertise and experience.
